Applying To CHS

Please note that we have a large number of applications already for the upcoming school year.  Therefore, we highly encourage anyone interested in admission for Fall 2023 to submit all materials by April 1st.  We do anticipate filling most (if not all) of our open spaces for next year with the group of students applying by this first deadline.

Our application for the 2024-2025 school year will open in January.  Check back on this page later or follow us on our social media to receive announcements about the application opening date.

Please note that all spaces for fall of 2023 have been filled, and there is a wait list. If you have just recently learned about Community High School, and wish to inquire about applying for the fall of 2023, please contact Meg Snow, Administrative Director and Admissions at meg@communityhigh.net before moving forward.

Application Deadlines and Notification for Entrance in Fall 2024

Applicants who submit completed applications before April 3, 2024 will be notified regarding admissions decisions by May 1, 2024.

Applicants who submit completed applications before May 1, 2024 will be notified regarding admissions decisions by June 14, 2024.

Applicants who submit completed applications on or after May 1 will be considered for remaining spots on a rolling basis.*

Request Transcripts from Current School

Records should be from all schools attended from 6th grade forward; please submit the Authorization for Release/Exchange of Record Information form to your student’s school(s) to request transcripts.

Step 1: Create a new account* by clicking here and then choose “register” on the bottom right. You will receive an email to set up your password.

Step 2: Once you receive your second email with your user ID, you may log in here.  Once you are logged in, please follow the instructions on the screen.

*Please note that current families should not create a new account. Please log in to your portal, go to “My School” on the left, choose “Enrollment”, “Online Portal”, then “Add a New Student”.

Request Letters of Recommendation

Recommendations should be from adults unrelated to the applicant, who are familiar with the applicant’s academic progress. At least one recommendation should come from a current teacher. Letters should be emailed directly or mailed to the school by the recommender.

Apply For Financial Aid

Parents/guardians may apply for Free Tuition or Financial Aid by filling out the appropriate form and submitting their most recent tax return. We have never yet let financial concerns prevent an accepted student from attending CHS, so we encourage all families who may need some assistance to apply.

Submit Portfolio

Students may also submit additional samples of work, including writings, artwork, photographs, videos, computer programs, graphics, etc., whatever you would like to show us! You will have the option to upload your portfolio work (or a document containing links to multiple pieces of work) within the online application. Please note that you can only upload one file in the application, so multiple files would need to be compressed and uploaded as a .zip file. Photographs/digital images of artwork are acceptable, as are originals/physical submissions. If you submit your original artwork, we will return your pieces to you!

Visit / Interview

After reviewing student application materials, the admissions team may invite the student for a visit / interview. If a student is asked to come for a visit, they will spend a full day (9:00am – 5:00pm) in person on the CHS campus in Roanoke, observing classes, interviewing with faculty and staff, and meeting current students. Please note that visiting students must observe all COVID-19 protocols while on our campus.

Essay

After the interview, the applicant will submit an essay. The topic will be assigned at the interview.
