In our culture we are flooded by media images on a daily basis. It is our goal to better help the student understand the influx of moving images through critique and production.
Students are welcome to try their hand at filmmaking, in our production course. The production class is set up for the student to get their feet wet in all aspects of film. One may get the chance to direct, edit, act, light, or any of the hundreds of other jobs that take place in an active shoot. All the while the student will learn the vocabulary and the tricks of the trade to better understand how film works.
For the first time, we will have Writing for The Screen offered at Community High. This is for the student that may want to apply their writing skills to the screen or that may want to develop a production from its fruition.
Film Genre is designed to teach the student how to critically watch and write about cinema. Generally the class falls under its namesake and follows a genre through each semester, though sometimes a deviation may be set in place to follow and we may spend an entire semester on a director or a region. In the past we have offered courses based around such subject matter as Film Noir, Feature Documentary, Adaptation, Hitchcock, and the all encompassing Foreign Film.
