Cold icy weather continues to plague us. Please tune into NPR or WSLS tomorrow morning to learn whether or not we will be having school. We will also change the voice mail message by 6:15 am so you can call the school at 540-345-1688 as well.
We are diligently trying to wind down our Annual Appeal drive before we start really gearing up for the Marginal Arts Festival. At this time, we have 52% of our families who have pledged or given. We need 100% participation in this campaign. If you have not already done so, please email me with your pledge amount. Those who have not pledged or donated by the end of next week can expect a call from Linda asking for a pledge.
Our own Cyrus Crenshaw and his dance troupe will be performing during the half time show at the Harlem Globetrotters 2010 World Tour Event at the Roanoke Civic Center on March 4. The Globetrotters take the court at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $28.00 for side concourse seating and $22.00 for end concourse seating. HOWEVER, if you purchase your ticket directly from Cyrus, you get a $5.00 discount. Please email me if you would like to purchase tickets from Cyrus for this event.
Another student, Carolyn Miesen, is organizing a food and water drive for Haiti relief. God’s Pit Crew will be delivering donations to Haiti and Carolyn will coordinate getting our donations to them. PLEASE only donate ready to eat food in easy open packaging, liquid baby formula or water. There is no easy way to prepare food or mix baby formula in Haiti right now, so food that must be cooked or opened with a can opener isn’t useful. Some requested items are peanut butter, crackers, fruit cups, pudding cups, canned soups in pop top cans and bottled water. Diapers are also appropriate. Please bring donations to school no later than Friday, January 30.
Yasmine Anderson will be returning next week from an extended trip to Egypt. We are all looking forward to seeing her and hearing about her adventures.
