CHS 2/5/2010

Hello everyone,

We are once again snow bound and enjoying a winter wonderland. I hope you all stay warm and safe. Keep your eye on the web site, call our voice mail or listen to Channel 10 WSLS or NPR WVTF for updates on opening status. Students should check their emails regularly, particularly if we do not have school on Monday. We have missed so much school that we may begin asking students to do work at home. Not having read email will not be an adequate excuse for not doing work.

After the students discussed ideas for general maintenance of the restrooms and our student lounge, the staff and the student representative held a meeting to brainstorm a solution. This particular idea was one that was sent to us in nearly the exact form from several parents, so we hope that it will be the magic bullet we need. We will have a rotating 2 person cleaning crew for each bathroom and the student lounge on a daily basis. John will post the list on the bathroom doors and in the student lounge and is willing to ensure that those responsible for their day do their duty. The faculty and staff will also participate in the cleaning of the restrooms. We feel strongly that the entire community should be responsible for the areas we use, so we are joining the students in this new policy – with the exception of the student lounge (we don’t eat in there.) We do not plan to implement this policy until after Marginal Arts Festival since our staff is quite busy with preparations for this major event. If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Speaking of Marginal Arts Festival, we STRONGLY encourage all parents and students to plan to attend at least two events. Please check out our web site at www.marginalarts.com for a listing of events. Additionally, your student should have brought you a copy of The Useful Paper, which highlights all events. Attendance at events is crucial to the success of this Festival, which positively highlights our school. Please attend!

Our Annual Appeal drive us up to 66% of parents who have pledged or donated. Please contact Roni, if you have not done so already. Our goal is 100% participation.

As always, questions, comments, concerns or praise can be forwarded to me at roni@communityhigh.net.

Again, stay safe and warm and we hope to see you all on Monday.

Roni
